Caver County Library System is writer-friendly. A writer’s group including all genres has been active for 5 years now at Chanhassen Library, 7711 Kerber BLvd. It meets the third Saturday of every month from 10:00-noon. Fourth Saturdays from 1-3:30pm the Author’s Collective meets in the building for information about contracts, self-publishing, letters of inquiry and marketing. Waconia Branch hosts Writer’s Club on the first Saturday of every month at 10:30am. A champion for the writers colony is Angela Hunt, CCLS Librarian who organizes events. October 7 the 4th annual Open Mike Poetry event took place with live music to start and 45 poems read by audience members who brought favorite classics and original work. “The night was heartwarming”, Beth Hammers, local poet, summed up.
A Memoir Writer’s Group was started this fall (Last Wednesday of the month) after an all-day Writer’s Retreat for Memoir at Charlson Meadows by guest speaker Judy Budreau. Angela is heading up the new Chaska Area Poetry Writer’s Group which meets quarterly on the last Wednesday of the month (January 28, 2015 next meeting). There are also live reading events planned nearly monthly for all genres in local coffee houses. Angela says she is busy planning the 3rd Annual Writer’s Fair which is hosted at Chanhassen Library. This year it will be held on Sat, April 11, 2015. “We’ll hear Tom Kerber, CEO of Beaver’s Pond Press, talk about how to prepare a manuscript for submission, mystery and non-fiction writer Jan Dunlap will speak on “Switching Genres Successfully” and “Managing Writer Workload”, and there will be other notable speakers including Laurel Means, Editor-in-Chief of Prairie Editing Services, who will be doing free 15-min one-on-one editing sessions. For more information or to register your email for an e-newsletter of upcoming events at Carver County Library System, call Angela at Chaska Library 952-448-3886.
